Infinix has unveiled two concept devices at the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC), showcasing a solar-powered smartphone and a color-changing E Ink phone. Though still in the prototype stage, both concepts emphasize the brand’s forward-thinking approach to mobile technology.
The solar-powered concept phone features a solar panel on its back, incorporating Infinix’s SolarEnergy-Reserving technology. This system utilizes perovskite solar cells, which are thinner, cheaper, and easier to manufacture compared to traditional silicon-based panels. To regulate power flow, the phone also uses Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), ensuring optimal energy efficiency and preventing overheating in direct sunlight. Currently, the solar panel can generate up to 2W of power, designed to extend battery life rather than serve as a primary charging method.
An even more fascinating element is the solar-powered phone case Infinix has developed. Unlike the phone itself, this detachable case offers users the option to switch between standard and solar-powered protection. It connects to the device via small side contacts, delivering power without the need for an additional charging port. This could be particularly useful in emergency situations, such as power outages or outdoor activities, where extra battery life may be crucial.
In addition to solar power, Infinix is also unveiling the second generation of its color-changing E Ink phone. The new version improves on its predecessor by drawing power directly from the phone’s internal battery, making it more flexible. Users can now customize the back panel’s color and design, choosing from preset options or using an AI-powered system to match colors to photos or even weather conditions.
There is no official timeline yet for when, or if, these innovations will become available in commercially released devices.
