A resident from Pakistan's port city has filed a complaint against a shoe company for charging an extra fee for a plastic bag with the purchase of shoes.

Reports indicate that the Sindh government issued a notice to the shoe company after the citizen raised the issue on the Prime Minister’s Portal. The complainant claimed they were charged an additional Rs30 for a shopping bag after purchasing a pair of shoes.

Mir Shahnawaz, Assistant Director of the Bureau of Supply Prices, forwarded the complaint to the Consumer Protection Court. He explained that the complaint was first filed through the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit and Citizen Portal. Despite sending notices to the concerned shoe store branch, no response was received.

Due to the lack of response, the case has been officially brought before the Consumer Protection Court, South. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 6.

A similar incident occurred in 2022 when a man in Karachi filed a case against a battery seller for refusing to replace a faulty battery under warranty. According to reports, the plaintiff bought a battery for Rs5,800 from a shop in Khudadad Colony on May 15. After just three months, the battery stopped working, and when the shopkeeper was asked to replace it, he refused and demanded double the charges, claiming a fault in the battery cell.

The complainant has requested the court to order the shopkeeper to pay Rs500,000 in damages. The court has instructed both the plaintiff and the shopkeeper to submit their responses by October 6.
