Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to convene an in-camera briefing for parliamentary leaders and opposition parties in view of the evolving global situation, particularly the conflict in the Middle East and the US-Israel strikes on Iran.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the prime minister has invited parliamentary leaders from both the Senate and the National Assembly, as well as opposition leaders, to attend the closed-door session scheduled for 11am tomorrow.
The briefing is aimed at taking political stakeholders into confidence over recent developments and Pakistan’s diplomatic and security posture.
The prime minister’s adviser on political affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan, will contact all parliamentary leaders and opposition figures to formally invite them to the in-camera meeting.
The move comes amid heightened tensions following the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
It is pertinent to mention that on Monday, March 1, 2026, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly denounced the targeting of Iran’s supreme leader, describing the action as a violation of international norms and established conventions.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said it had long been an accepted principle that heads of state or government should not be targeted in military actions.
The Iranian government confirmed early Sunday that Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei had been martyred in joint Israeli and US air strikes that began on February 28.
In a post on X, the prime minister expressed profound condolences, calling the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei a grave loss for Iran.
He stated that the government and people of Pakistan stood in solidarity with the people of Iran in their hour of grief and sorrow and extended their most sincere condolences.
“We pray for the departed soul. May Allah Almighty grant patience and strength to the Iranian people to bear this irreparable loss,” the premier said.
