Jamiat Ahle-Hadith (JAH) Amir Professor Senator Sajid Mir died in Sialkot on Saturday at the age of 86, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Born in Sialkot in 1938, the senator had been ill for some time and had undergone surgery at a hospital in Islamabad a month ago.
But instead of recovering, his condition deteriorated and he again moved to Sialkot where he breathed his last.
Mir had also undergone a heart surgery 10 years ago.
He had been leading his party for the last 40 years, and had been elected to the Senate five times.
He was considered to be a close associate of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
The senator also authored several books.
The deceased has special relations with members of the Saudi royal family, including Shah Abdullah, Shah Salman bin Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Salman.
He left behind two sons, a daughter and a wife to mourn his death.
His funeral prayers will be offered in Sialkot.
PM Shehbaz grieved
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death of Amir of Jammat Ahle Hadith, Senator Professor Sajid Mir.
The prime minister prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
The prime minister said that late Sajid Mir had been a foresighted political personality and Islamic scholar whose demise had created a vacuum in the national political scene which could hardly be filled.
Late Mir always raised voice against extremism and sectarianism which was a golden chapter in his contributions for the politics and religion.
He also shared his and the entire nation’s sympathies with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.
