In a major step to curb sales tax fraud and the registration of bogus companies, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made biometric verification mandatory for all individuals registering for sales tax.
According to the new policy, taxpayers will be required to complete biometric verification within the first month of their registration. The move comes after repeated instances where companies were fraudulently registered by misusing citizens’ identity cards, leading to massive tax fraud cases.
Officials said the decision is aimed at ensuring transparency in the sales tax system and preventing the misuse of fake or unauthorized identities for financial crimes.
