A 20-year-old woman in China miraculously survived after jumping from the 18th floor of an apartment building, with a tree and dense bushes cushioning her fall.

The incident took place on July 12 in the city of Jiaxing, where the woman, identified as Xiaoyi, reportedly jumped after an argument with her boyfriend.

According to local reports, Xiaoyi acted impulsively following the dispute.

Before hitting the ground, she struck a tree, which slowed her fall, before landing in bushes instead of on the concrete below, a factor believed to have saved her life.

Her boyfriend rushed her to hospital immediately and reportedly paid 20,000 yuan towards her medical treatment.

Doctors found that Xiaoyi had suffered serious injuries, including trauma to her head, lungs, liver and other parts of her body, while both of her legs were fractured.

She has already undergone two surgeries, with a third operation being planned.

After regaining consciousness, Xiaoyi said she and her boyfriend had argued several times before the incident and that she had been considering ending the relationship.

She alleged that her boyfriend had taken her identity card and mobile phone and locked the apartment door, leaving her feeling trapped.

A family member said Xiaoyi had been emotionally distressed after the overnight argument and believed jumping from the apartment was her only way out.

He added that she now deeply regrets her decision.

The family is facing mounting medical expenses, with hospital bills exceeding 100,000 yuan.

They still have around 60,000 yuan outstanding and have refused to allow Xiaoyi's boyfriend to visit her, fearing it could cause further emotional distress.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. According to the family, Xiaoyi survived only because she landed in bushes rather than on the concrete, describing her escape as nothing short of miraculous.
