Ukraine said at least two people were killed and seven others wounded by Russian shelling in the Kherson region Sunday, while air defences downed 10 Russian drones overnight.
Kherson was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in November 2022 but has since faced relentless shelling by Russian forces from the opposite bank of the adjoining Dnipro river.
Officials said a 78-year-old man was killed Sunday morning when the village of Sadove was bombarded, while a woman in Kherson city was killed by shelling in a street.
Sadove lies just east of Kherson city, close to the Dnipro river that marks the front line between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
"As of this hour, two people have been killed and seven wounded in the Kherson city territorial community as a result of shelling by Russian occupation forces," said Roman Mrochko, head of Kherson city's military administration.
He shared a video showing what appeared to be a large gap in the facade of a high-rise building, and pieces of shattered debris on the ground below.
Russia attacked several other locations in Ukraine overnight, using a total of 12 Shahed drones, 10 of which were intercepted, Ukraine's armed forces said in its daily briefing.
It also said a guided Kh-59 missile failed to reach its target.
Russia has used hundreds of Iranian-made self-detonating Shahed drones to attack targets across Ukraine since launching its fully-fledged invasion in February 2022.
Ukraine has boosted its air defence systems since last year, when Russia bombarded energy infrastructure in a bid to paralyse the country during winter.
Separately on Sunday, Russia accused Kyiv's forces of striking several villages in the region of Belgorod, which borders Ukraine.
Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said drones and artillery fire were directed at several Russian villages, without causing casualties or major damage.
