The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has assured that President Asif Ali Zardari will sign the madrasa bill into law, JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said.
He was talking to the media after a meeting between JUI chief Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The meeting lasted for two hours and according to sources, Bilawal vowed to address Fazl’s concerns over the matter.
Bilawal told Fazl that the latter would personally look into the matter and the madrasa registration bill would be signed into law soon, the sources maintained.
A local channel reported yesterday that the JUI warned of starting an anti-government movement if it does not approve the madrassa bill by December 7.
The sources said that the PPP chief urged the JUI head to review the decision regarding December 8 where Fazl will be announcing its future line of action.
However, they added that Fazl told Bilawal that he would take up the matter with his party leaders.
The bill, which was passed by Parliament, is yet to be signed into law by the government.
The JUI-F chief expressed frustration, stating, “The government has ignored the bill passed by Parliament and opted to legislate on its own terms.” He demanded the government explain why it had yet to sign the law into effect.
