Madhuri Dixit, on a podcast by Ranveer Allahbadia, candidly recounts how her relationship with Dr Shriram Nene truly began, and the Bollywood actress made it clear that their marriage was rooted in love rather than any form of arrangement.
Speaking on The Ranveer Show, Madhuri reflected on the early phase of her personal life, explaining that although friends frequently attempted to match her with potential partners, her primary focus remained her work.
She shared that she was cautious about entering the wrong relationship, saying, “My friends would always try to set me up, but I loved my career. And I thought if I found the wrong man, all the fun of my life would be gone. I never thought of a fairy tale.”
She also brushed aside the idea that she had “cast a spell” on the cardiovascular surgeon, a playful question she was asked during the conversation.
Madhuri attributed the warmth in their marriage to genuine understanding, noting, “I am lucky I met such a romantic guy. There should be mutual respect, encouragement, and positivity that always help me feel more. Our relationship is a great combination of art and science. We intersect at this wanting for people's good health.”
Clarifying assumptions about her marriage being arranged, the Aaja Nachle actress stated that although her brother introduced them, she and Dr Nene spent six months dating before deciding to tie the knot.
She also pointed out the traits that drew her to him: “When he speaks about his patients, the way he is fighting for them, his bedside manner is amazing. He is naturally very caring, well-read, intelligent, and even has an interest in photography. My husband and I are the biggest blessings in each other's lives. My husband is a bigger blessing than my career,” she said, adding that professional achievements feel incomplete without someone meaningful to celebrate them with.
She recalled how Dr Nene even filmed her music video Candle during the COVID lockdown, teaching himself camera techniques to ensure it was executed perfectly.
The couple married in October 1999 and later moved to the US, where they raised their sons, Arin (born 2003) and Ryan (born 2005), before returning to Mumbai in 2011. Since then, the pair has balanced a revived career for Madhuri with a strong family life.
Madhuri’s upcoming project, Mrs Deshpande, is set to mark her return in a darker role, a psychological thriller directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, where she portrays a convicted serial killer assisting the police in tracking down a copycat murderer. The series, adapted from the French show La Mante, will debut on JioHotstar on 19 December 2025.
