Punjab Police have registered a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes against a man for allegedly spreading fake news about a robbery.
According to 24NewsHD, Okara’s B-Division Police Station has registered the FIR against the man who allegedly shared news about a robbery in a WhatsApp group without verification. The news shared in the WhatsApp group said that 10/11 men snatched money some people including women at gunpoint during a robbery at a private hotel. The WhatsApp user shared this news in a group titled City Okara. Police reached the scene to verify the news, but found no such thing there.
In a video message later, the hotel owner too denied any such incident happened on premises and declared the post shared in the WhatsApp as fake news.
Police have warned the social media users and representatives of the media organization against sharing anything without verify it.
