A significant breakthrough has been reported in ongoing negotiations between the government and the opposition, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai during the upcoming session of the National Assembly.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the development was facilitated through the efforts of the prime minister’s adviser on political affairs, Rana Sanaullah.
The sources said the prime minister is likely to visit the opposition leader’s chamber in the National Assembly along with his delegation.
They said initial contacts were made on Monday at the Parliament House to arrange a meeting between the prime minister and the opposition leader.
However, the process was delayed due to the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Pakistan and the Prime Minister’s official engagements.
Sources said the meeting could not take place earlier, as President Asif Ali Zardari was in Karachi on Monday. They added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wanted to take the president into confidence before meeting Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
It was further stated that the prime minister would now hold talks with the opposition leadership on the occasion of the next National Assembly session.
Confirming the development, Rana Sanaullah said that when the prime minister attends parliament, he will meet the opposition leadership.
The expected meeting is being viewed as an important step towards reviving political dialogue amid ongoing tensions between the government and opposition parties.
