Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina has declared that the time has come for the establishment of a people’s government in Venezuela, calling it a decisive moment for the country’s political future.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, in a statement addressed to the Venezuelan public, Maria Corina said that President Nicolas Maduro would now have to face international justice, asserting that accountability was inevitable following years of political turmoil and alleged rights violations.
In an open letter shared online, she formally endorsed opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez as Venezuela’s new leader, stating that peace would now prevail in the country and that political prisoners would be released as part of a broader national reconciliation process.
Maria Corina maintained that Gonzalez had secured the genuine victory in the 2024 elections and urged him to immediately assume his constitutional responsibilities, describing the transition as essential for restoring democracy, stability and public trust.
Her remarks come amid heightened political tension in Venezuela, where opposition forces continue to challenge the legitimacy of the current administration while pressing for democratic reforms and international engagement.
