An operation for the recovery of the body of a young woman, who had drowned in Saifullah Lake along with seven members of her family, entered its fourth day on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The operation began at 5:00 early in the morning. The district administration, specialized teams of Pakistan Navy, and local volunteers participated in the operation.
According to the officials, operation for the recovery of the girl’s body would continue uninterrupted.
On Friday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi constituted a high-level committee to investigate the tragic boat incident in Saifullah Lake in Swat.
According to details, a secretary of the Inter-Provincial Department, a BS-20 officer, was made head of the committee, while the special secretary of finance would also be part of the committee.
The committee will investigate the operational and technical reasons that led to the tragedy.
The committee will determine the availability and operations of life-saving measures, life jackets, and rescue instruments.
The committee will examine the capability and expertise of the boatmen.
It will submit its report to the provincial government within seven days.
Police in Swat on Thursday registered an FIR against the boat operator in Saifullah Lake boat tragedy in which at least seven people lost their lives.
As per initial investigation, the incident took place after the boat’s engine stopped functioning.
Police were conducting raids for the arrest of the boat owner till last reports came in.
Meanwhile, bodies of six members of the same family who had drowned in the lake in Swat on Wednesday were brought to Lahore on Thursday for burial.
The deceased were identified as 65-year-old Colonel (r) Amir Ondal, his 20-year-old son, Abdullah Ondal, daughter 27-year-old Parwa Ondal, daugher 23-year-old Raweel Ondal, and Parwa’s one-year-old son and five-year-old daughter.
Amir Ondal's third daughter 17-year-old Bushra was still missing and Rescue officials were trying to locate her.
At least seven tourists died and seven others got injured after the boat capsized in Saifullah Lake in Swat on Wednesday.
Rescue officials shifted the bodies and injured victims to Kalam Hospital.
On receiving the information, rescue teams, ambulances and tourism police were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Despite difficult and mountainous terrain, the rescue personnel reached the spot on time.
The Upper Swat Development Authority (USDA) also provided full support in the rescue operation along with Rescue 1122, the district administration, Swat Police, Tourism Police and the local Jeep Association.
