Rawalpindi police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three people in connection with a land fraud case involving the property of a 150-year-old cinema, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to anti-corruption officials, an Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) and an inspector were arrested over allegations of tampering with official land records.
Authorities said a case has already been registered, while the alleged beneficiary, Malik Arif, has also been taken into custody.
The anti-corruption department obtained a four-day physical remand of the accused to further investigate the case.
Police officials said the inquiry was initiated after Bilal Sadique, the owner of the cinema property, filed a complaint alleging that Malik Arif, in collusion with officials of the Municipal Corporation, had illegally occupied the land.
The complainant alleged that a two-kanal portion of the property was transferred to Malik Arif's name based on a forged power of attorney.
Anti-corruption authorities said they have also recommended including officials from other relevant government departments in the investigation to determine the full extent of the fraud.
