Police reports confirmed that out of the 216 prisoners who escaped from Malir Jail, 100 have been recaptured, while 115 were still on the run, reported 24NewsHD TV on Wednesday.
Authorities have assured that inmates who voluntarily surrender will be treated leniently, in line with the government’s policy of not using force against cooperative individuals.
To accelerate the operation, 10 police teams have been formed in Karachi, each comprising 10 to 12 officers and personnel. These teams have been assigned the task of quickly completing the operation and arresting the remaining fugitives.
Police officials confirmed that negligence contributed to the incident, and an investigation is currently underway. In response to the situation, additional personnel have been deployed inside and around the jail, with further reinforcements recommended to the government for approval.
