PM Shehbaz, MQM leadership discuss upcoming budget

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday held a consultation with a delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), led by Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, to deliberate on the upcoming federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–2026.

The MQM delegation submitted its recommendations regarding the forthcoming budget and held detailed discussions on the broader political and economic situation in the country.

The delegation pressed for greater investment in urban infrastructure and uplift projects in Karachi. 

Prominent members of the MQM delegation included Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Federal Minister for National Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, and MNAs Dr. Farooq Sattar, Aminul Haq, Javed Hanif, and Mustafa Kamal.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured the MQM representatives of the federal government’s commitment to Karachi’s development.

He stated that directives have already been issued to accelerate progress on the Karachi-Hyderabad development package, and pledged continued cooperation to address the city’s pressing issues through federal support.

Senior government officials in attendance included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Public Affairs Minister Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Inter-Provincial Affairs Rana Sanaullah, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Talha Burki.
