Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday asked that under what law fee was being charged for entry into the New Blue Area and issued notices to the secretary interior, chief commissioner Islamabad and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) administrator, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The judge made these remarks during the hearing of a petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Tayyab in which he had challenged the collection of the fee.

Advocate Zohaib Gondal and Advocate Hazrat Younus, who appeared in court on behalf of the petitioner, said that commercial markets, corporate headquarters and restaurants were situated in the New Blue Area.

However, they added, the MCI was charging motorists Rs100 for driving on the Service Road situated in the area.

They further said that the MCI did not provide any facility or service in return.

The lawyers argued that the collection of fee also constituted a violation of higher courts’ decisions.

They prayed to the court to declare charging of the fee illegal.
