Unidentified armed assailants launched an attack on the Karachi to Gwadar Coastal Highway near Makola, setting four vehicles — including a police van — on fire, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to administrative sources, the attackers also targeted a Coastal Highway Police checkpoint in the area of Makola (between Pasni and Ormara), damaging infrastructure and looting weapons from police personnel.
As per the TV channel report, the unidentified attackers also set ablaze three LPG tankers that were en route from Karachi to Iran.
The channel also reported that the terrorists burst the tyres of three other tankers before escaping from the scene.
After executing the attack, the armed group fled the area, leaving behind a scene of destruction.
The law enforcement agencies have reached the crime scene, cordoned off the area, and started searching for the miscreants.
It is pertinent to mention here that last year, on November 14, terrorists attacked a checkpost and injured two security personnel.
According to the details of the incident, some unidentified miscreants suddenly assaulted a security checkpost in Pasni, resulting in injuries to two security officials.
The Pasni checkpost attack was described as a surprise assault, and the injured personnel were given medical attention.
Coastal Highway
The Coastal Highway, also known as National Highway 10 (N-10) and Makran Coastal Highway, is a 653 km long highway that runs from Karachi to Gwadar.
It follows the Arabian Sea coast and passes through the towns of Ormara and Pasni. The highway is located primarily in Balochistan, Pakistan.
The coastal highway passes by the Munda Volcano, which is a religious site for Hindus and is located in Hingol National Park.
The highway passes through an area that some say resembles the Grand Canyon, with natural art created by wind and seasonal weather.
Before the highway was built, the journey from Karachi to Gwadar could take two days. With the highway, the journey from Karachi to Gwadar takes about six to seven hours only.
