A 13-year-old boy was killed after being struck by lightning in a rural area of Toba Tek Singh, officials said on Monday.
According to reports, the victim, Ghulam Sarwar, son of Rasool Khan and a resident of Chak No. 401, was returning home after herding goats when lightning struck during adverse weather conditions.
Family members rushed the child toward a hospital in a private vehicle. However, Rescue teams intercepted them near Waryamwala Bypass and took over emergency response efforts. Rescue personnel checked the boy’s vital signs, administered oxygen and performed CPR before shifting him to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
Despite efforts to revive him, doctors at the hospital pronounced the child dead upon arrival. Medical officials stated that the cause of death was a lightning strike, which led to a sudden cardiac arrest.
Authorities have urged the public to take precautionary measures during thunderstorms to avoid such incidents.
