Lady health workers and other health staff staged a protest sit-in outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday, demanding the release of their unpaid salaries, which they said had been pending for the past 11 months, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The protest led to the closure of Khyber Road in front of the assembly, causing disruption to traffic in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, the protesters said that despite repeated assurances from the government, their salaries had not been paid, leaving them with no option but to take to the streets.
The sit-in saw participation from women health workers belonging to multiple districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Malakand, Swat and Swabi.
The protesters also called on the government to introduce a proper service structure for lady health workers and to ensure their promotions in line with the directives issued by the Peshawar High Court.
