A 7-foot-long alligator was safely captured and relocated after attempting to cross a busy highway in the US state of Florida, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded when the large alligator was spotted trying to cross the North Dale Mabry Highway, a heavily trafficked road in the area.

Officials said they arrived at the scene alongside a licensed wildlife trapper to safely contain the animal before it could pose a risk to motorists.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office described the operation with a light-hearted tone, noting that when your “suspect” is 7 feet long and armed with around 80 sharp teeth, backup is essential.

Authorities confirmed that the alligator’s attempt to cross the roadway was safely halted, and the animal was later relocated back into a suitable aquatic and wildlife habitat.
