The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution lauding the historic defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on June 17, 2025.
The resolution, moved by government member Shagufta Faisal, hailed the accord as a milestone in strengthening the defense and strategic cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
Paying tribute to the country’s political and military leadership, the resolution described the agreement as a “great honour” for Pakistan, under which the nation has been entrusted with the “responsibility and privilege of protecting the Two Holy Mosques.” It emphasized that Pakistan, being the only nuclear-armed Islamic country, has once again demonstrated its pivotal role in safeguarding the Muslim Ummah.
The resolution further stated that Pakistan’s recent defence achievements have “made their mark across the world,” and attributed this renewed global stature to the firm resolve that originated from the historic nuclear decision taken by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “That decision, made despite internal and external pressures, strengthened not only Pakistan’s defence but also that of the entire Islamic world,” the text read.
Members of the House also commended the “day-to-day efforts” of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the “strategic vision” of Field Marshal General Asim Munir, acknowledging their role in fortifying Pakistan’s defence diplomacy. The resolution concluded with a pledge that Pakistan would fulfill this sacred responsibility “with sincerity and faith” and “thwart every conspiracy against Islam and the Islamic world.”
Assembly Proceedings
The Assembly session, chaired by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, began after a delay of two hours and two minutes. The proceedings opened with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat, and the national anthem, followed by Fatiha for the martyrs of the Pakistan Army.
During the session, Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal presented the Punjab Emergency Service Amendment Bill 2025 and the Forest Amendment Bill 2025, which were referred to the relevant committees for two months. Several other educational bills were also tabled, including the Crown Ridge University Bill 2025, Times University Multan Amendment Bill 2025, Ali Bin Usman Institute Multan Bill 2025, Superior University Lahore Amendment Bill 2025 and Akhuwat University Kasur Bill 2025.
The Orient International University Bill 2025 was approved by the House, while the Maqbar University of Science and Technology Amendment Bill 2025 was passed.
Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan urged the ministers to ensure timely responses in future sessions, warning that delayed replies would be referred to the Privileges Committee. Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir assured the House of prompt responses in upcoming sittings.
