Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted on charges of transporting women for prostitution, marking a stunning downfall for one of the most powerful figures in hip-hop.
The 55-year-old producer appeared before Judge Arun Subramanian in a Manhattan courtroom, where he listened in silence as the judge called him a “vile and unrepentant” abuser who caused “irreparable harm” to his victims.
Diddy, who has already spent 13 months in custody since his September 2024 arrest, is now expected to be released in November 2028. The judge also imposed a $500,000 fine, condemning the rapper for using his wealth and influence to manipulate and exploit women.
While Diddy was not convicted for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, the judge openly referenced the infamous 2016 video showing him physically attacking her, saying Ventura’s courage in coming forward had “paved the way for justice.”
Ventura’s attorney Douglas Wigdor hailed the outcome as a milestone for survivors, stating that her 2023 civil complaint “triggered the criminal investigation” leading to Combs’ downfall.
The courtroom heard gut-wrenching testimony from Ventura, who accused Diddy of subjecting her to years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. She claimed the rapper forced her into humiliating “freak offs”, a term prosecutors said described coerced sexual encounters, while using intimidation and blackmail to maintain control.
Prosecutors detailed how Diddy arranged private flights across state lines for women and male sex workers, violating the federal Mann Act, which criminalises transporting individuals for prostitution.
The sentencing caps a two-year legal saga that gripped the entertainment world. Once celebrated for his chart-topping music, fashion ventures, and lavish lifestyle, Diddy’s legacy now stands in ruins amid explosive allegations of violence and sexual exploitation.
