National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), the designers of the Thokar-Jallo Yellow Line Bus project on Lahore Canal Road, presented three proposals to the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Yesterday, in the Chief Minister’s meeting, LDA and NESPAK officials gave a briefing on the project.
The Chief Minister was given a comprehensive briefing on the designs of three possible proposals and their costs.
In the first option, the option was given to run the Yellow Line from Thokar to Jallo by constructing thirteen underpasses.
In option one, a separate track and thirteen underpasses have been estimated to cost Rs88 billion.
In option one, more than four thousand trees will be cut and new trees will be planted in their place.
Option two includes the construction of a motorcycle lane and eleven biker underpasses for it, and the option of allocating a part of the existing track for the Yellow Line.
The second option has also been estimated at Rs88 billion, while the track will be used the same, and about 2,000 trees will be cut.
In the third and final option, the Yellow Line track will be built by installing cut and cover on the existing track, and no trees will be cut.
The third option will be the most difficult option and is estimated to cost a hefty Rs120 billion.
According to sources, in the third option, the LDA has expressed reservations about keeping the Lahore Canal traffic closed for at least a year.
The Chief Minister has ordered the NESPAK authorities to suggest an option that is most suitable and does not put the citizens in difficulty.
In the next few days, NESPAK will suggest an option to the Chief Minister in consultation with the LDA, on which a final decision can be taken.
