India has once again released water into Pakistani rivers, intensifying fears of devastating floods, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed that a high flood alert has been issued at two points along the River Sutlej, where India discharged water at Harike and Ferozepur.
The Indian High Commission formally notified Pakistan of the release through an official communique, warning of potential severe flooding at these locations.
According to the flood report issued this morning at 8 am, a dangerous surge in water levels is expected.
The Ministry of Water Resources has accordingly alerted provincial governments and concerned authorities, while federal and provincial secretaries, WAPDA, and NDMA have also been informed.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab released its own report highlighting the scale of destruction across three major rivers, Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab.
More than 3,900 villages have been affected, with 46 confirmed deaths. In total, nearly 3.875 million people have been impacted, while rescue teams managed to shift 1.8 million stranded individuals to safer locations.
Relief Commissioner Punjab stated that 410 relief camps and 444 medical camps have been established in flood-affected districts, where over 1.3 million livestock have also been rescued.
He said water levels at major dams show alarming conditions as Mangla Dam stands at 87 percent capacity and Tarbela Dam has reached full capacity, while on the Indian side, Bhakra Dam is at 84 percent, Pong Dam at 98 percent, and Thein Dam at 92 percent.
Meanwhile, in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chilas region, a high-level flood struck Daril Valley, sweeping away 12 houses and dozens of cattle.
Floodwaters also destroyed bridges, orchards, and farmland spread over several acres in the Chilas region. Local residents fled for their lives as emergency teams rushed toward the area to begin relief operations.
