The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued a landslide alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), warning of potential hazards due to heavy rains in the region.
According to NDMA, landslides are likely in sensitive areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK, particularly in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Bagh, Poonch and Sidhnoti districts. The authority said that continuous rains could also trigger flooding, heightening the risk of landslides along major roads.
The Karakoram Highway and several adjoining routes—including Torghar Road (120 km), Battagram Road (140 km), Shangla Road (160 km), Lower Kohistan Road (180 km), Tata Pani Road (320–360 km), and Gilgit Road (400–420 km)—may face disruption. Landslide risks have also been flagged for Hunza, Rondo, Skardu and Chitral.
NDMA advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous areas and stay updated through radio, television and the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert system.
“The National Emergency Operation Center is fully operational round-the-clock, and NDMA is in close coordination with civil and military agencies,” the alert said, urging the public to follow local administration directives and contact rescue teams in case of emergency.
