The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has rejected the bail plea of Zahid Hussain, accused of seizing 40 kanals of land through a fake identity card.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the case was heard by a two-member bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi on Thursday.
During the hearing, the court was informed that the accused had fraudulently obtained the identity card of the late Ulfat Bibi and used it through a woman named Rukhsana to trick beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme.
On the same forged ID card, a 40-kanal piece of land transfer was executed in his name.
Justice Shahzad Malik remarked during the proceedings that the accused appeared to be “a master trickster”. In response, the defence lawyer insisted that his client was innocent and respectable.
Justice Malik countered, saying, “Every client of yours seems innocent,” to which the lawyer replied, “That’s exactly why they come to me for their cases.”
The court, however, found no merit in the bail application and dismissed it, leaving the accused to face trial in custody.
