Pakistani actress Amar Khan has voiced her frustration over ageism and unrealistic casting trends in the entertainment industry.
Sharing a video from journalist Aamna Isani on Instagram, Amar criticized the growing practice of casting younger actors in mature roles and older actors in college uniforms, calling it “absolute stupidity” and highlighting how such decisions undermine the credibility of stories.
In her Instagram story, Amar wrote, “@thisisaamna Well said, well said, well said… The most problematic yet important point. Younger actors in mature roles and maturer actors in college uniforms… both are absolute stupidity and people obsessed with wrong notions of ageism.
No doubt every other day the hot topic is actors age shaming other actors… and this is what even your audience picks and replicates. What a shame when the world is running with fresh concepts, we are here in shit hole!!”
The video from Aamna Isani specifically highlighted the trend of casting young actors in mature roles, which has sparked controversy in several recent dramas, including Main Manto Nahi Hoon, where older actors were cast as college students or in romantic leads that did not match their age.
Amar’s comments have sparked a larger discussion on social media about the need for thoughtful casting and reform in the industry, positioning her as a prominent voice advocating for realism and creativity in Pakistani dramas.
