The recent surge in petrol prices has forced the Lahore police to drastically reduce fuel allocations for official vehicles, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
Under the new directives, vehicles assigned to additional inspector generals at the IG office now receive just 150 litres of petrol, down from 500 litres.
DIG-rank officers’ petrol was cut from 400 litres to 150 litres, while AIG-rank vehicles were reduced from 300 litres to 150 litres.
All RPOs under the IG Punjab have also been instructed to reduce the number of squad vehicles in use. Similarly, DIGs and SSPs now receive 600 litres of petrol instead of the previous 800.
Divisional SPs’ vehicles have been restricted from 600 litres to 450 litres. DSPs’ cars now receive 300 litres, down from 400 litres, and squad vehicles accompanying officers have also been cut from 300 litres to 150 litres.
Authorities clarified that the fuel allotment for police station vehicles remains unchanged.
Officials emphasised that these measures aim to manage resources efficiently amid rising fuel costs while ensuring essential operations continue.
