National Disaster Management (NDMA) has issued heavy rain and flood alert for next week, as the upper and central areas of the country are likely to face possible flood conditions due to heavy rain from 5 to 8 August.
There is a moderate to high flood risk in river Chenab including (Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad). Likewise, river Jhelum including (upper areas of Mangla) will under flood risk. There are chances that flow of river Kabul will increase at Nowshera and there is also risk of flood in the streams of Swat and Panjkora.
Likewise, there are sudden flood conditions are expected in areas of Gilgit-Baltistan including (Hunza, Ghanche and Shigar) in result of possible rains. There is low level flow present in Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu Barrage and in the coming days there are chances of moderate level flow. Due to Monsoon rains, the Tarbela dam has been filled 94 percent while the Mangla dam has been filled 64 percent.
The relevant institutions are required to ready the dewatering pumps for drainage purposes in urban areas of north-east and central Punjab. The NDMA is keep providing timely information about possible threats to the relevant institutions, and also instructed for getting prepared and take precautionary measures to deal with possible threats.
In the given circumstances, try to avoid unnecessary travelling in the restricted areas and also avoid crossing near the rivers, bridges and flooded roads during high current conditions. The local administration and relevant institutions are instructed to keep necessary machinery and pumps ready for immediate drainage from lowland areas.
