A 276-kilogram of Tuna fish has been sold in Tokyo for an eye-watering $1.3 million (approximately 361.4 million Pakistani rupees), setting a new record.
Experts attribute the high price the Tuna fetched to its exceptional quality and scarcity. The fish, likely a Bluefin Tuna, is highly prized for its size and quality, factors that have contributed to the record-breaking price.
While Tuna exists in over 80 countries worldwide, the production of the fish in the Indian and Pacific Oceans continues to grow. Among the species commonly found in Pakistani waters are Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Bonito, and Bigeye Tuna. However, the Bluefin Tuna remains the most sought after of all.
Tuna, along with other cold-water fish such as salmon, is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which provide numerous health benefits.
