Indian national Sarbjit Singh Kaur, who came to Pakistan on a pilgrimage visa and later married a Pakistani man, was taken to the Wagah Border for deportation back to India, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
However, her departure was delayed due to technical issues with travel documents, officials said.
Authorities now expect that she may be sent to India via Wagah Border on January 6.
The 48-year-old woman had arrived in Pakistan on November 4 as part of a group of Sikh pilgrims.
During her stay, she allegedly converted to Islam and married Naseer Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura.
After conversion, she adopted the name Noor Fatima and remained in Pakistan instead of returning to India.
According to reports, Sarbjit Singh Kaur first made contact with Naseer Hussain in 2016 through social media, which later developed into a relationship.
Sources confirmed that she has been temporarily shifted to a Dar-ul-Aman facility while arrangements for her return are finalized.
No official decision has yet been taken regarding the formal handover to Indian authorities.
Her lawyer, Ahmed Hassan Pasha, told the media that under the Foreigners Act 1946, Sarbjit Kaur was not authorized to reside in Pakistan, which is why she is being deported.
He added that she could return to Pakistan on a spouse visa in the future and subsequently apply for permanent residency.
Meanwhile, lawyer Ali Changezi Sandhu, who is handling the case in the Lahore High Court, said the matter is still under judicial review.
During the hearing on December 5, Justice Farooq Haider requested reports from the Cabinet Division, IG Punjab, FIA, and other relevant authorities regarding the case.
The incident has highlighted legal, religious, and cross-border complexities, drawing widespread attention in Pakistan and India.
