The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought a report from the IGP Punjab and CCPO Lahore on the steps taken to ensure that the festival of Basant was celebrated in a peaceful and secure environment, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing of a petition filed by Judicial Activism Panel against the Kite Flying Ordinance, 2025, the counsel for the Punjab government objected to the admissibility of the petition for the hearing, saying the ordinance had now become an Act; so, therefore, the petition was not admissible for the hearing.
Additional Secretary Judicial Abdur Rauf, Assistant Commissioner City Rai Babar Ali and other officials appeared in court, while the petitioner was represented by Azhar Siddique Advocate.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Azhar said that despite the fact that Basant was still to be celebrated, already three lives had been lost in different incidents.
Justice Malik Owais Khalid asked what measures the provincial government had taken to ensure that no harm was caused to the people during the celebration of the festival.
The government officials told the court that special instructions had been issued to the concerned departments to take steps to save the lives of people during Basant.
Later, the court adjourned the case’s hearing until January 16.
