The stage is being set for a blockbuster cricket revival as major cricket boards gear up to launch the World Club T20 Championship in 2026—a long-awaited successor to the defunct Champions League T20 (CLT20).
The new tournament will bring together top franchise champions from around the globe, including powerhouses from the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Big Bash League (BBL), SA20, and The Hundred. A dream scenario for fans could see Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers going head-to-head with Shahid Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars, among other marquee clashes.
While modeled on the CLT20 format, the upcoming version promises to be bigger, better, and broader in scope, with greater international representation and a massive global fanbase hungry for cross-league showdowns.
The tournament has gained significant backing from top cricketing bodies, including the BCCI, ECB, and other major stakeholders. ICC Chairman Jay Shah has also voiced support, and ECB CEO Richard Gould has confirmed that the event is in its final planning stages. A women’s edition of the tournament is also under serious consideration.
