Music history was made on Friday night as Liam and Noel Gallagher reunited on stage for the first time in 16 years, kicking off the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, a moment that brought thousands of fans to tears.
More than 75,000 concertgoers packed the venue to witness the iconic Britpop brothers, whose famously fractured relationship had kept the band apart since their dramatic split in 2009. Walking out arm-in-arm to deafening applause, the Gallaghers set aside years of feuding in a powerful display of unity, launching the show with the song Hello, from their 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?
“Manchester vibes in the area!” Liam shouted, setting the tone for a night filled with nostalgia and emotion.
From Some Might Say and Morning Glory to fan-favourite Wonderwall, Oasis delivered a hit-packed set list that had the audience singing and sobbing in unison. Celebrities like Danny Dyer, Vernon Kay, and Rob Brydon were also spotted soaking in the epic atmosphere.
Noel, now 58, and Liam, 52, appeared visibly emotional at several moments, especially during Noel’s acoustic solo performance of Talk Tonight and Half the World Away, where he briefly paused, overcome by the crowd's reaction.
Adding to the sentimentality, childhood photos of the brothers and their parents Peggy and Tommy were projected on giant screens as Stand By Me played, turning the arena into a sea of lighters and swaying hands.
In a cheeky moment, Liam addressed the Ticketmaster pricing chaos, saying: “Was it worth the £40,000 you paid for the ticket?”
The show closed with Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, but fans demanded more — and they got it. The brothers returned for an encore with Don’t Look Back in Anger and a show-stopping Wonderwall, bringing the emotional rollercoaster to a thunderous close.
As Liam said: “Thanks for putting up with us over the years. We’re hard work. We get it.”
The tour, which will span 41 shows across Europe and attract nearly 900,000 fans, has officially begun with a bang and a brotherly handshake no one thought they’d see again.
