More than 100 huts burnt to ashes when a massive fire broke out in a slum area of Karachi on Friday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The fire erupted in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block No. 19 in Karachi.
The fire reduced the life savings of hundreds of families to ashes in a matter of hours. The flames were so high that clouds of smoke could be seen for a distant place. Animals, birds, and other household items were also destroyed in the blase.
The affected families looked on in helplessness as their burning huts burned. Many people tried to save their savings and valuables, but everything proved unsuccessful in the face of the intensity of the fire.
One of the victims said that “my whole house, including my loader vehicle and Rs2,00,000, was also burnt.”
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said that “the fire broke out due to the non-availability of passage, so we faced many difficulties to bring the fire under control.”
He said that 11 fire tenders brought the fire under control. Now the cooling process is underway. No loss of life was reported from the site of the incident so far.
