Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met British High Commissioner Jane Marriott in Islamabad to discuss Pakistan-UK economic cooperation and key regional developments, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the regional situation and Pakistan’s broader economic strategy. They also discussed ways to enhance investor confidence and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the minerals sector.
The finance minister informed the British envoy that, on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a high-level committee is conducting daily economic reviews to monitor the evolving situation.
He said authorities are closely observing energy supply trends and developments in global commodity markets, while detailed assessments are being carried out regarding the supply of petroleum products, oil, coal and gas.
Aurangzeb said Pakistan currently has adequate energy reserves and arrangements in place, adding that the government is engaged in scenario planning to deal with any potential regional impacts.
The finance minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to meeting the targets set under its programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He said the government remains focused on expanding the tax net and increasing revenue collection as part of its broader economic reform agenda.
Aurangzeb further noted that Pakistan recorded an economic growth rate of 3.7 percent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, reflecting gradual economic recovery.
On the occasion, the UK envoy reiterated its continued support for Pakistan’s economic reform efforts. Both sides also agreed to work together to strengthen investor confidence and explore opportunities for cooperation in the minerals sector.
