The Child Protection Bureau Punjab has initiated a research study into cases of mothers killing their children, following a recent incident in Lahore’s Ichhra area where a woman allegedly killed her three children.

The announcement was made by government member and bureau chairperson Sara Ahmed during a session of the Punjab Assembly. The issue was earlier raised in the House by Rana Aftab Ahmed, who highlighted the Ichhra incident and called for attention to the underlying causes.

Sara Ahmed said the bureau would examine patterns and factors behind such cases, adding that findings would be shared with the assembly. She noted that the study aims to understand the circumstances in which mothers resort to extreme actions against their children.

She further informed lawmakers that children who survive attempted harm by their mothers, including cases reported from hospitals, are being taken into protective custody and provided shelter through the bureau.

The initiative is expected to contribute to policy recommendations aimed at preventing such incidents and strengthening child protection mechanisms in the province.
