Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan on Tuesday said party leaders had been denied weekly meetings with the jailed former prime minister since October, expressing serious concern over the health of Imran Khan and his wife, 24NewsHD TV reported.
Speaking to the media persons on Adiala Road, Gohar said the party had been attempting to meet its leader regularly, but access had not been granted.
“There are serious concerns regarding the health of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi,” he said.
He added that those who wish well for the country should not obstruct such meetings, adding that allowing access would help improve the overall political environment.
Gohar stressed that the PTI founder could not be separated from the public and said the party remained focused on securing his release and proper medical treatment.
He dismissed speculation about internal divisions, saying the founder’s sisters were respected but had no role in politics.
Gohar Ali Khan also praised what he described as a “battle of truth,” saying the country’s recent successes were made possible by the sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces and national unity.
He said these developments had strengthened Pakistan’s defence and enhanced its standing in the region.
However, he warned that the continued detention of the PTI founder remained a “serious and complex issue,” adding that the country risked moving into a deeper political crisis.
He alleged that key state institutions appeared aligned, while the media was facing pressure due to laws such as PECA and economic challenges.
Gohar said courts had not heard appeals related to the suspension of sentences for the PTI founder and his wife for nearly a year.
He cautioned that adverse rulings in major cases, including the Al-Qadir Trust Case, could further complicate the situation.
“We request the judiciary, whether the Supreme Court of Pakistan or constitutional courts, to hear these appeals and decide them in line with the law,” he said, urging judges to avoid creating further complications.
He acknowledged frustration among party workers and supporters, saying they were expecting results.
“We are making every effort, but delays are increasing disappointment,” he said, urging swift legal decisions and meaningful political dialogue.
Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Shafi Jan condemned the killing of religious scholar Maulana Idris, calling it a tragic loss.
He said authorities had obtained CCTV footage and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
Jan also said a planned rally from Swabi had been cancelled after objections from the PTI founder’s sisters.
He confirmed that a property linked to the PTI founder in Constitutional Avenue had been sold and was no longer under his ownership.
Commenting on opposition politics, Jan said Mahmood Khan Achakzai had been nominated as opposition leader with the backing of the PTI founder and would be supported in future decisions regarding political strategy.
