As the PML-N is holding discussions with its allies in the government in order to enlist their support for the 27th Amendment, which it plans to get passed from parliament, a delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) would call upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today in the evening, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Sources told the 24News TV channel that the prime minister would hand over the draft of the amendment to the delegation and take it into confidence on the matter.
The delegation, too, would convey its concerns to the prime minister on the occasion, sources said, and added that the party would decide whether to support or oppose the amendment following consultations.
PM Shehbaz had held a meeting with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari a couple of days ago in which he had sought his party’s support for the amendment.
The federal government had proposed significant changes to various articles of the constitution, Bilawal revealed on Monday.
Bilawal's post on X stirred widespread speculation about the amendment's scope and timing, as the government promptly summoned both houses of parliament to session - the Senate on Tuesday and the National Assembly on Wednesday.
According to Bilawal, the PML-N delegation, led by PM Shehbaz, met him and President Asif Zardari at the Presidency to seek the PPP's support for the amendment.
The PPP chairman later confirmed that his party had been requested to back the 27th Amendment.
However, he added that his party would decide on the matter at its Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting.
