As the crackdown on the Afghan refugees living illegally in Pakistan has gathered pace in recent days in view of the fast approaching deadline of October 31 set by the government for these refugees to leave Pakistan, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration bulldozed a settlement of Afghan refugees built illegally in Margalla Town of Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The Islamabad Police also assisted in the operation.
According to reports, heavy machinery was used to raze structures such as houses and shops to the ground.
And although the Afghans offered resistance, the police managed to disperse them.
CDA officials have said that the Afghan refugees had been occupying the place for a long time.
Two days ago, on Tuesday, the National Apex Committee, in its meeting with Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar in the chair, had decided in principle to evict foreigners, living illegally in Pakistan.
The meeting was also attended by COAS General Asim Munir, the chief ministers of four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Recent increase in incidents of terrorism prompted the authorities to take the decision.
The officials gave such foreigners the deadline of October 31 to leave the country or face the music.
High-ranking security officials, who also attended the meeting, briefed the participants about the recent incidents of terrorism in Pakistan.
The meeting was also briefed about the steps being taken to control such incidents and action being taken against illegal immigrants.
