The first of three supermoons of 2025 will illuminate Pakistan’s night sky on October 7, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has confirmed.
According to details reported by 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday, the first full moon of 2025, a supermoon, will shine brighter and appear larger than usual as it rises from the east shortly after sunset and sets in the west before sunrise.
The supermoon will reach its peak visibility at 8:47 pm (Pakistan Standard Time), glowing 6.6 percent larger and 13 percent brighter than a typical full moon.
Astronomers note that the October supermoon will appear close to planet Saturn, which will be visible just to the left (west) of the moon on the evenings of October 6 and 7, adding to the spectacle.
Suparco has also indicated that two more supermoons will follow, one on November 5 and another on December 5. The brightest supermoon of the year is expected in November, when the moon will come as close as 221,817 miles (357,344 km) to Earth.
Skywatchers across Pakistan are expected to witness the rare celestial display, which will mark the beginning of an extraordinary lunar season for stargazers in 2025.
