A disturbing cross-border incident unfolded near the Pakistan–India border in Sindh’s Tharparkar district, where Indian forces opened fire on a herd of goats that had strayed close to the restricted boundary, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
The firing took place on Saturday evening in Sunorani village, located in Tehsil Dahli, when the animals inadvertently wandered toward the Indian side of the border.
Authorities confirmed that eight goats were killed and dozens were injured, with several animals sustaining severe wounds and amputations due to the gunfire.
The Livestock Department’s Deputy Director reported that 43 injured goats were later sold to butchers in Umerkot, while 11 received medical care and treatment on-site from a veterinary team dispatched under the Chief Minister’s instructions.
In response, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah condemned the “barbaric and unlawful” action by Indian forces, calling it a violation of international law and the principles of peace.
He said that firing on innocent animals was “an act of cruelty that disgraces humanity” and directed provincial authorities to provide full assistance to affected livestock owners.
CM Sindh further instructed the Livestock Department to maintain continuous monitoring in the affected areas and ensure ongoing animal welfare efforts.
The Chief Minister also recommended that the federal government raise the issue at the diplomatic level, urging Islamabad to take notice of India’s “aggressive and provocative” conduct along the border.
“The government of Sindh stands with the affected owners,” Murad Ali Shah said. “Acts like these not only breach peace but also reveal India’s disregard for humanitarian values.”
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who described it as a brutal attack against helpless animals and demanded justice for the victims of the border violence.
