The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has waived the fee for cancelling Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) following a person’s death.
According to a Nadra spokesperson, a pilot project has been launched in three districts of Punjab to register deaths through the provincial Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) using a mobile app. The system will also facilitate the registration of births, marriages, divorces, and deaths, and is expected to be rolled out nationwide in the coming weeks.
The spokesperson said that data sharing between Nadra and the provincial CRMS has been strengthened. Once a death is registered in the provincial system, the CNIC can be cancelled through the Pak ID app.
The new measures aim to enhance data accuracy and curb fraudulent registrations, the spokesperson added.
