Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Sunday said that it appeared that the purpose of a relentless criticism of the Sindh government by the PML-N leaders was an attempt to destabilize the federal government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he stated that the PPP was not engaging in politics, but was instead focusing on the needs of flood-affected people in Punjab. “The Punjab government has failed to provide immediate relief to these people because it is too busy with media management rather than serving them. The truth of the matter is that those people are engaged in politics who are focusing on media management.”
The minister was of the opinion that an attempt was being made to create such an environment in which the PPP withdrew its support for the federal government.
He further said that not a single PPP leader had made any controversial statement about the Punjab government.
Sharjeel went on to say that the PPP leaders had no ego issues if Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz did not seek an apology from them. “We only want her to concentrate on the well-being of the flood-hit people.”
He made it clear to CM Maryam that Pakistan was not any individual’s or political party’s property. “We have no issues with the Punjab government,” he clarified.
Referring to the distribution of Rs1 million among the flood-affected people as claimed by the Punjab chief minister, the minister said the amounts would be distributed after a survey. “Should we allow these people to die from starvation by the time the survey is completed?” he questioned.
Sharjeel demanded that the local bodies’ (LB) elections should immediately be held in Punjab. “When it comes to the Sindh government, courts give us a deadline to hold LB polls.”
He also made it clear to CM Maryam that neither the PPP nor the Sindh government was jealous of the Punjab government. “I can also say my port, my coal. But I will not say these words.”
