The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that severe cyclonic storm “Shakti” is moving in a northwesterly direction over the Arabian Sea, currently positioned about 800 kilometres southwest of Karachi.
According to the latest PMD advisory, the cyclone is generating wind speeds of up to 135 kilometres per hour near its centre, with sea conditions expected to remain extremely rough from tonight through October 7.
Under its influence, light rain is likely in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan, while gusty winds are forecast to blow at speeds between 40 and 55 kilometres per hour.
The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into deep sea areas due to hazardous maritime conditions and high waves.
The PMD said that “Shakti” is expected to gradually weaken after October 6, turning eastward and transitioning into a cyclonic storm.
Authorities and relevant agencies have been placed on alert to monitor the situation and take precautionary measures as the system continues to evolve.
