Earlier, in mid-August 2025, Buner was ravaged by a rare cloudburst, a sudden deluge exceeding 150 mm of rain in just one hour, triggering devastating flash floods and landslides. The deluge swept away homes, crushed entire villages, and claimed more than 200 lives in Buner alone, forming one of the most lethal flash floods in recent memory.
The human toll was harrowing: bodies strewn among debris, houses obliterated by boulders, and entire families buried alive in places like Beshonai, Pir Baba, Qadar Nagar, and Dagar. At its peak, estimates varied, with fatalities in Buner ranging from one to over 200, PDMA reported 208 deaths, with 50 still missing.
Now, tragedy seems poised to repeat itself. A fresh cloudburst has struck the Gokand area, sparking renewed flooding risks across nearby valleys. Rescue 1122 teams in Buner have been placed on high alert, ready to tackle any emergency. A spokesperson from Rescue 1122 urged the public: avoid going near rivers and streams due to the escalating danger.
