The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flash and urban flooding alert for Punjab, warning of heavy rains from September 7 to 9 that may trigger overflowing of rivers, canals, and severe waterlogging in several districts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.
According to the advisory, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, and Mandi Bahauddin are at risk of urban flooding and rising water levels in rivers and canals. Similar threats have been highlighted for Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Chiniot, and Lahore, where heavy rainfall may overwhelm drainage systems.
The NDMA further cautioned about flooding in Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Sargodha, while low-lying areas in Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan are also vulnerable. The authority warned that the situation could worsen in already flood-affected parts of Punjab, increasing risks for local communities.
On NDMA’s directives, rescue teams and emergency response agencies have been placed on high alert, with special instructions to monitor rivers and canals closely. Citizens living near waterways have been urged to mark safe evacuation routes and shift valuables, including livestock, to higher ground.
The NDMA has also advised residents to prepare emergency kits, including dry food, clean water, and essential medical supplies, while avoiding unnecessary travel, especially across flooded roads and bridges.
Authorities have further stressed the importance of preventing the spread of waterborne and infectious diseases, urging citizens to follow all instructions from local administrations in case of an emergency.
