The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has set a new milestone by registering the most expensive luxury SUV in its history, valued at Rs176 million, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
The registration fee alone amounted to an unprecedented Rs94.4 million, marking the highest-ever fee collected by the department.
Excise Director Shahid Gilani confirmed the development, noting that this registration had set a new benchmark in the department’s records.
“This is the highest registration fee ever collected by the Punjab Excise Department,” he said.
Previously, in 2023, the record was held by a modern Range Rover, for which the department collected Rs9.1 million in fees—a figure then considered equivalent to the price of a compact SUV.
The latest SUV has been registered under the name of Ahmed Waqas, a resident of Gujranwala, who also secured a unique number plate, AWA-089, for his vehicle.
According to officials, the Motor Branch Lahore currently leads in revenue collection, achieving more than Rs5 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year alone.
Industry experts suggested that this record-breaking registration not only boosts the department’s revenue but also highlights the continued demand for luxury vehicles in Pakistan, despite soaring car prices that have strained the purchasing power of ordinary consumers.
Excise officials added that such developments will further strengthen the department’s performance and enhance its capacity for revenue collection in the coming months.
