The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Friday dismissed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s appeal against a female teacher’s transfer, ruling that the move reflected personal, not public, interest.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the two-member bench, headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, heard the case.
During proceedings, the Additional Advocate General argued that the transfer had been made in the “public interest”.
Justice Rizvi, however, observed that the record showed otherwise. “This transfer does not reflect public interest but personal interest,” he remarked.
The court noted that the teacher had first been transferred to a posting 50 kilometres away, where she served for one year. Later, she was moved to a closer centre, but the decision was reversed within just 15 days.
After hearing arguments, the Supreme Court dismissed the KP government’s appeal, upholding the teacher’s posting.
On February 9, 2025, the 24NewsHD TV channel also reported that a teacher at a government higher secondary school in KP has complained about students at Yakatoot police station in Peshawar, citing persistent harassment that has hindered his ability to perform his duties effectively.
The teacher alleged that students frequently catcall him and use inappropriate language, creating a hostile work environment.
Frustrated by the ongoing misconduct, he formally requested the education department to transfer him to another school.
The police, while acknowledging the complaint, stated that they could counsel the students but were unable to take strict action against them.
In an attempt to resolve the matter, law enforcement authorities have reportedly summoned the parents of the accused students.
The incident has sparked concern within the education sector, prompting the District Education Officer of Peshawar to take notice of the situation.
